The University of Aveiro promoted a networking event on plastic packaging in the agrifood sector

In the framework of TuRBO-SUDOE Project, on june 25th it was held at the University of Aveiro (UA) a networking event to discuss the challenges posed by the plastic packaging in the agrifood sector. This event aimed to stimulate the interaction between UA’s researchers, economic players within plastic packaging life cycle and the society, promoting sharing R&D results and projects, innovation needs, challenges posed by the introduction of new materials as well as future strategies and perspectives.
The event had the participation of several speakers, with different roles and perspectives on this matter. UA’s researchers (Idalina Gonçalves and Cláudia Nunes) presented studies on new plastic materials from food industry residues and on composite packaging for active food preservation. The perspective of the producers of packaging and its raw materials was presented by the companies Isolago (Helena Sousa) and Polivouga (Tiago Barros). The vision of the retail players was presented by LIDL (Vanessa Romeu), while the inter-municipal company Lipor (Alexandre Ventura) exposed the perspective of the residues’ treatment agents.
Additionally to the presentations, the event counted also with a very dynamic round table, with the participation of the audience, which was composed by researchers and companies of several fields. Audience and speakers intensively engaged, debating and brainstorming about a theme that has become a daily subject on the society, prompting notorious changes in the habits of the populations.
The event was organized by Maria João Cardoso, Transference Broker for the Agrifood sector, at the University of Aveiro, one of the partners of TuRBO-SUDOE project.DOE.
