The 15th of November, the Technical Day of Energy Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability in the Food Industry was organized at FEUGA’s event venue in Santiago de Compostela, organized by our center in collaboration with the Food Cluster of Galicia (CLUSAGA).
Industry is one of the relevant sectors from the point of view of energy consumption, and within the European food and beverage industry is the most important manufacturing sector in the EU by volume of sales and employment. In Spain, the food industry accounts for 9.9% of total industrial consumption and 17% of the value of energy consumed by the manufacturing sector. We must therefore contribute to achieving the EU’s objectives for the coming years towards a more sustainable economy with more energy efficiency and lower CO2 emissions to the environment.
Most of the fabric of this industry, especially SMEs, does not have the information, training and tools on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies, while it is very difficult to have the necessary financing to incorporate them. That is why this event was organized with the aim of improving information on these aspects in the food and beverage industries, in order to guarantee and promote their competitiveness, improve security of energy supply and guarantee sustainable production in Europe.
